Housing: New satellite city for Cairo
Tuesday, December 15th 2009Egypt’s real estate developer Sixth of October Development and Investment Company (SODIC) is about to start work on a new satellite city outside Cairo.
Located at the intersection of the Cairo-Alexandria and Dahshour roads west of the capital, the so-called Westown development consists of two main projects: Forty West, a mixed residential, commercial and social centre; and The Polygon, a business park. Ground is due to be broken in March 2010 and the first residents are expected to move in 2013. The development is being carried out in conjunction with Dubai-based property developer Solidere International, and will serve the nearby Sheikh Zayed and Sixth of October residential communities, providing easy access to business services, shopping and entertainment.
SODIC is also involved in the Eastown development on the opposite side of Cairo near the new American University campus. This will serve the New Cairo and Kattameya residential areas.
