General: Estonia and Latvia to share Cairo embassy
Tuesday, January 5th 2010Estonia and Latvia are to share an embassy premises in Cairo according to an agreement signed at the end of 2009. If all goes according to plan the jointly operated facility should be operational in the spring. The decision to share a diplomatic seat in Egypt has been triggered partly by an increase in tourism and business between the north African state and the two Baltic countries but also because such a move will allow for economies in administrative overheads. At present the Estonia embassy works out of the Swedish embassy. Latvia has only had diplomatic representation in Egypt since 2007.
